    Dawn M. Coulson is the managing partner of Epps & Coulson, LLP. Ms. Coulson focuses her practice in the areas of business dispute resolution and litigation, commercial litigation, real estate transactions and litigation, healthcare, corporate and regulatory issues, and creditors’ rights/bankruptcy law. She regularly counsels in the employment areas, including employment counseling, company restructuring, human resources documentation and management, executive compensation, employment agreements, hiring and termination agreements, investigations, HR practices and litigation. Ms. Coulson practices in state and federal court, and regulatory agencies and arbitrations.

    Ms. Coulson previously owned an import/export business and had worked for both a Japanese import-export-trading company and an American import-export-trading company before law school. Her other professional affiliations have included the State Bar of California; Beverly Hills Bar Association; Beverly Hills Bar Foundation – director/past president; Los Angeles County Bar; American Bankruptcy Institute; Los Angeles Financial Lawyers Conference; Los Angeles Bankruptcy Forum; Receiver’s Forum, The James T. King Bankruptcy American Inn of Court (Los Angeles), The Hon. Benjamin Aranda III American Inn of Court (Redondo Beach); and others. She also holds a California Real Estate Broker license.

    Ms. Coulson graduated with a dual degree B.A. (Japanese – Asian Cultures and Languages) and B.B.A. (Business Management) from the University of Texas at Austin in 1982 and received her J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 1990.

    Ms. Coulson was admitted to practice in the States of Colorado in 1990, California in 1991, New York in 2013, Texas in 2014 and Oregon in 2020. Those include the U.S. District Court, Colorado and U.S. Court of Appeals, Tenth Circuit, 1990; U.S. District Court, Central District, Northern District, Eastern District, and Southern District of California, and U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit, 1991. And last but not least, she was admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court in 2010. Ms. Coulson has been rated by her peers and selected as Super Lawyer 2007-2020.

  • Education

    Ms. Coulson is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, where she received two degrees: a Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Arts in 1982. She received her Juris Doctor Degree in 1990 from the University of Denver College of Law, where she received achievement recognition in torts, post-trial procedure, pre-trial practice and the Internship Award for her work in Samsonite Corporation’s legal department. Ms. Coulson represented the University of Denver in regional rounds for the Barrister’s Moot Court and the Negotiations Competitions.

  • Service & Honors

    Ms. Coulson was recognized as a Super Lawyer Top Attorney in 2007 – 2020. She was a prestigious Women of Influence Honoree in 2009 and in 2019 was a Women of Influence Nominee in Commercial Real Estate. Ms. Coulson provides services to the Los Angeles County Courts when called upon by the Court.
