CALIFORNIA UPDATES: TWO MANDATORY PAMPHLETS REQUIRED FOR NEW HIRES
CALIFORNIA UPDATES: TWO MANDATORY PAMPHLETS REQUIRED FOR NEW HIRES
California made updates to two crucial pamphlets that employers are required to provide to new hires. (1) The “TIME of Hire” pamphlet provided by the California Department of Industrial Relations Division of Worker’s Compensation and (2) the “For Your Benefit” pamphlet issued by the Employment Development Department (EDD).
The “Time of Hire” pamphlet serves as a comprehensive guide, explaining the intricacies of worker’s compensation, including the process of filing claims and accessing medical care. This updated pamphlet showcases the state’s commitment to ensuring employees are equipped with the necessary knowledge to navigate the complexities of workers compensation adding new information to be completed, including “Predesignation of Personal Physician” and “Notice of Personal Chiropractor or Personal Acupuncturist” notices to assist employees who wish to be treated by a personal physician.
The “For Your Benefit” pamphlet, which must be provided to new hires and employees upon discharge, outlines various benefits that the state provides to employees in the event of termination or when they’re on specific types of leave. It also offers insights into obtaining unemployment insurance, tax requirements related to unemployment benefits, paid family leave, workforce services which offer a range of employment services for job seekers, eligibility criteria for state disability insurance, and a list of workers who may not qualify for unemployment benefits.
These updates remind employers of their legal obligations to provide accurate and updated information to their employees. Employers should take this opportunity by updating their onboarding documentation to be compliant with the law.
