UPDATES AS OF APRIL 30, 2026, ON EPPS & COULSON, LLP’s ‘HIDDEN CAMERA’ LAWSUIT AGAINST KAISER

Initial Status Conference on July 24, 2026
The Court has scheduled an initial status conference for July 24, 2026. The initial status conference is an early administrative hearing where the judge organizes the case and sets a schedule for next steps. Before that hearing, Epps & Coulson, LLP will be meeting with Kaiser’s attorneys to discuss case management issues, then we will prepare and file a joint status report for the Court. At the conference itself, the Court will likely address a variety of routine case management and procedural issues, including related cases and how to manage the case itself.
Related Civil Cases
Epps & Coulson, LLP filed the hidden camera lawsuit in January 2026 with our First Amended Complaint (FAC) HERE for reference. Since then, our case has been designated ‘complex’ and assigned to Judge Carolyn B. Kuhl at the Spring Street Courthouse in Downtown Los Angeles. While we filed as a class action, which may involve over 350 persons injured by the hidden camera incident, we have been in touch with and currently represent over 120 individual victims. In February and March, two different law firms filed additional lawsuits arising from the same hidden camera incidents. Both cases were initially assigned to different judges; however, as the cases involve the same hidden camera issues, the Court related these cases to ours.
Epps & Coulson, LLP’s Case is the Lead Case
It is not uncommon for different lawsuits arising from the same incidents to be related before the same judge to manage, or sometimes to consolidate. So, the second and third related cases were assigned to Judge Kuhl’s department in April. A copy of the Court’s order relating the cases and designating Epps & Coulson, LLP’s case as the lead case is available for HERE. We have already spoken with the attorneys who filed the related cases, and we will strategically coordinate our efforts as the cases progress.
Updates on the Criminal Case
We have been closely monitoring the criminal case filed by the city attorney against Destin Samoeun and attended the last hearing on April 1. So far, it does not appear that Mr. Samoeun is going to take an early plea deal. He is still on house arrest, but at the April 1 hearing, the city attorney informed the court that Mr. Samoeun had violated the terms of his house arrest and argued that he should not be credited with “time served” if he is convicted.
LAPD Investigation
The LAPD arranged calls with some of the victims to inform them about being identified on the hidden camera footage. We are informed that the LAPD was able to readily identify some of the victims because their names on their badges were visible in the recordings. The LAPD investigation is ongoing.
